I wish there weren't unfavorable types in the blogosphere that would say unflattering things about you for no reason, although experience says there certainly is. People can be fairly trecherous and try to run you off if they feel they are threatened by your presence in any way.
Oftentimes, though, there is not much you can do about it face-to-face. We just have to realize that it is an imperfect and unfair world at times, then do as you have suggested to the best of our ability. If the unflattering posts/reviews are TRUE though..be an adult, take heed, and change.

Hi Kimberly: Yes you're right unfortunately, there are some types who will feel threatened and lash out if you're good at what you do. As you say though--same strategies apply. :)
